Pez Tower of Awesomeness

In Trent’s History of Creativity class he had to do a “creative” project. So Trent’s idea…build a lighthouse out of Pez. It took a few weeks, approximately 2700 pez and LOTS of Gorilla Glue. It has a light and all in it. It now resides in Cannon’s room so he can eat it when he gets hungry. And the two things Trent learned from this project Gorilla Glue is really hard to get off your hands and two, chocolate and cola flavored pez are nasty.

Squash Sculpting

What would Halloween be without carving pumpkins or squash sculpting as Trenton likes to call it. This year we went over to our Freshman Ward Bishop’s house. We have over the years been able to maintain a great relationship with the Harwards and are so thankful for their kindness and love. It was Jane’s birthday the night before we came over so Trent made her a beautiful flower bouquet in a pumpkin. She was so thrilled to have it. And if I do say so myself Trent has quite a knack for floral design. Well, this year I really wanted to do something awesome for my pumpkin, but I’m not really an artist at all so I didn’t know what to do. But thankfully Sarah had a brilliant idea to use a drill to carve a pumpkin. So that is what I did. I used Trent’s drill and like a crazy woman I drill a bunch of holes into my pumpkin. I used all different sizes of drill bits and it turned out pretty sweet. It was amazingly a lot of fun and really messy. There is something very therapeutic about drilling into a pumpkin. Power tools are definitely a lot more fun than using a knife! Trent carved his pumpkin in symbolism of him and Cannon. They have a very tender relationship. Cannon had a great time watching everyone, but got a little sacred when he saw his mom using a drill, for a good reason to! In the end our squash sculpting was a complete success and we can’t wait for next year to do it again!

Grandma Dyer

In October, Renee Dyer passed away. It was a sad event to lose someone so loved by her family and friends. But we can rejoice because we have the knowledge of the plan of Salvation and know that we will see her again. We were able to drive down to her funeral in Las Vegas. Matt came with us as well. It was very special because all the Dyer siblings were able to be there except for Angela because Lindy was still so young. The funeral was beautiful. It was a day so full of love and spirit. I am so glad that we could go down and celebrate her life. She was an amazing woman. She was so full of life and love. One special memory I have of Grandma Dyer is that she came and visited Trent and I just a few days after Cannon was born. It was so special to have her come and hold her great-grandson. She also made him two fleece blankets. A gift I know Cannon will treasure. We will miss her, but we can always keep the love she shared with us.

The Trenton’s Birthday

Trent just keeps getting older and older. This year was Trent’s first birthday…he got to spend with Cannon. I took Trent to Smashburger for the first time. It was one of the few hamburger places around town that Trent had not tried and he had wanted to try it for awhile. So we finally went and he LOVED it and ever since it has been his favorite hamburger place. It may have also helped that they gave Trent free drinks and fries because he was the birthday boy. We also drove around town and tried to get free things for different shops for his birthday. It was pretty much an epic failure. First off most stores just stared at him when he would ask if he could get anything for his birthday or they would say that he needed a birthday “coupon.” So I think we ended up only getting free frozen yogurt and about 7 rejections. It was a valiant effort however. We all had a great time in spite of the lack of free food. We sure love Trent and are so glad we could spend his 24th birthday with him!

October Conference, Shooting and Disappointment

For October General Conference this year we went up to the Johnsons. We wanted to go up for a few reasons. One to take Cannon on his first road trip, two to see our family and three because Angela was going to have her baby at any time and we’d hope to be there for her arrival. On the way up to Idaho I joked with Trent that Angela was going to have her baby 30 minutes after we left Chubbuck, and as it turns out I wasn’t too far off when I said that. We had a very relaxing weekend with the Johnson family. Dad and Mom Dyer were there as well as Landon and Matt. We had a great time playing with the kids and visiting with each other, listening to General Conference and watching movies. Trent and the boys went shooting before Priesthood session. They had such a great time shooting things and lost track of time so they were subsequently late to Priesthood session. And mind you one of them is a Bishop and another one is in the bishopric. However, they did make it to most of the session. But mostly we were just watching Angela and waiting for her to tell us she was going into labor. Well, we waited and waited. Two days we waited and nothing. Well it was 7 pm Sunday evening and Trent and I needed to head home. So we left Chubbuck after a great weekend but still no new addition to the family. After we were 20 minutes out we received a call from Mom Dyer saying Angela just had her baby girl! We were sad that we missed seeing our new niece Lindy, but none the less were grateful to have spent the weekend with our family.

Cannon's Blessing

Over Labor Day weekend we blessed our baby boy Cannon James Dyer. We are so thankful to have had so many of our family members out here to attend the blessing. In attendance were Mom and Dad Corning, Katie, Sarah, Patrick, Bryce, Mom and Dad Dyer, Angela, Shad, Drake, Graham, Avery, Lindy (still in the Angela’s womb at the time), Nathan, Adrienne, Jayden, Landon, and Matt. We had quite the crowd and it was so fun to have everyone here. We spent a lot of time playing at Joaquin Park. We had bubbles for the kids and Frisbees for the bigger kids. On Sunday Cannon was blessed by Trent. We asked Dad Corning, Dad Dyer, Matt, Nathan, Patrick, Shad and our current Bishop Dan Snow to be in the circle. It was a beautiful blessing and such a sweet and tender experience for Trent and myself. After the blessing we came back to our apartment and somehow piled everyone inside and had a wonderful brunch. But before everyone came back to our place I was changing Cannon's outfit and my mom was helping me. That is when she informed me that we had put Cannon's outfit on backwards...oops. Sorry Cannon that your parents can't even dress you properly! Later that afternoon we went back to the park and played our own version of the game show “Minute to Win it.” We had a variety of minute to win it games. Some of the favorites were trying to move Oreo into your mouth using only your face. I found out the my face muscles are no good at moving cookies into my mouth. We also played a game that involves wearing a headband with a slinky attached to it, and then you must flip the slinky up onto head so that it rests in a stacked position on forehead. Trent, Patrick, Bryce, Mom Dyer, Landon, and Dad Corning all tried it out. Trent and Landon did it the quickest. I think this was my favorite game to watch because everyone looked so ridiculous trying to do it, but probably not as ridiculous as I looked trying to move an Oreo into my mouth using my face. All the games were tons of fun to try but the best part was just watching one another trying to accomplish the game. Trent and Matt even made up their own game of “how many ping-pong balls can we stuff in our mouth?” Matt was uncontested winner. We all had absolutely wonderful weekend with our family. Cannon had a great time too, even though he slept through most of it!

Welcome Cannon James Dyer

Cannon James Dyer was born on August 11th 2010 and 4:39 pm. He weighed 9 lbs 7oz and was 21 inches long. We are so happy that he has finally arrived. We love our little boy and are so excited to have him here with us. A bit about the day he was born. Cannon was actually due on August 4th however he did not want to make his appearance then or for the next week in fact. So finally when I was 41 weeks my doctor decided to induce me. A side note about being induced. It was not my favorite thing ever, but I think the worst part about it was how awkward it was to walk into the hospital and have an appointment to have a baby. So not even close to my day dreams of running into the hospital because I’m in labor and this baby is coming right now!! Anyway, I had an appointment at 5 am to be induced. So Trent and I go strolling into the maternity ward at Orem Community Hospital and 5 am and the whole time I am freaking out inside NOT because I am going to have a baby that day but because I don’t know what I am supposed to say to the nurse. “Ah yes I’m here because I have an appointment to have a baby.” Yeah, so awkward. I don’t even remember what I said all I do remember is them giving me the weirdest look. And I’m thinking “Oh great! What did I say wrong.” Then finally, with much hesitancy take me back to a room and tell me to wait there. Then I start thinking did we come on the wrong day? It was 5 am not 5 pm right? Well, as it turns out I wasn’t on the schedule. HAHAHA, that would happen to me. They thankfully said I could stay because I was already a week overdue. Later we did find out that I was on the schedule sort of. A nurse had written down I was coming but forgot to input it into the computer. Moving on labor pains are not that fun hence why I gave up my resolve to try and have this baby naturally. I waited as long as I could than I got the epidural. In hind sight I’m glad I did. Well, we had some problems during labor. Cannon’s heart rate kept dropping and he was turned down like he should have been. The nurse kept telling me I might have to have a c-section. It was a little scary. But in the end I delivered a BIG healthy baby boy. He had a nice “beret” as Trent called it on his head because the doctor used a vacuum to help get him out. I fell in love with him the moment I saw him and I couldn’t believe he was ours. We love you Cannon. Thanks for joining our family. We will be eternally grateful for you.

World’s Largest Water Balloon Fight

One day I was looking on Facebook and saw that I had an event invitation. So when I opened it to see what the event was it said “World’s Largest Water Balloon Fight.” Well, that sounded intriguing. It said that BYU was trying to break the record for the World’s Largest Water Balloon Fight on July 23rd. The record was currently being held by the University of Kentucky. To participate was free and you would also receive a free T-shirt and lunch. Well, the free food and shirt sold me and I told Trent about it when he got home. And of course Trent was all for going because if there is any excuse to throw water balloons he’s there. And plus I was due in about a week and we thought that it would be a good way to induce labor. We also invited our neighbors, Shaun and Lanette Nelson to come join the party with us, which they did. So when we all arrived that morning, Friday July 23rd, we got to pick either an orange, pink, blue or green t-shirt. We went for green obviously. We were then separated into two teams—pink and green and orange and blue. After which they lined us up and we went to pick up our water balloons. Each person was given a grocery sack full of 30 water balloons. They we took our positions and waited for the onslaught to begin. Then we hear 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,…1…after which complete and utter madness ensued. I have never seen such a sight as this. There was water balloons flying everywhere you looked. Half of them breaking the other half just fell on the grass unbroken. Everyone was soaked within a minute but the fight lasted for six. Trent and I were throwing our water balloons into a huge mass of people not knowing who it hit or if it hit anyone. You couldn’t even follow where your water balloon went if you wanted to. It was chaos, but really awesome chaos. Due to Trent’s placement we ended being right next to where they were handing out the bags of water balloons. So Trent kept running back for more bags of balloons. At the end we probably ended having 7 bags of water balloons. It was amazing. And after it was all over I still was unfortunately not in labor. We gave it a good try, but alas out little man was intent inside the womb. He probably really didn’t want to come out after what he just experienced. Then we took our soaking wet selves and had the free lunch they provided. We are so glad that we participated in it. It was a blast, and we would do it again in a heartbeat. The unfortunate part about the whole thing is we only held the record for a short time. Shortly after BYU secured the record the University of Kentucky stole it back. So being a part of a world record was fun while it lasted!

Little Man

Late in the summer of 2009 Trent and I had been discussing the possibility of going to China for Winter semester to teach English. Since I had been before as a volunteer I had the opportunity to go back as a head teacher. For this position they would pay my way plus give me a small stipend. And since I was married they would pay for Trent’s program fee. Essentially we would be able to go to China for free plus get paid. We both applied for the program and Trent was quickly accepted. However, they were unsure if I would be able to go due to the program’s financial situation. A few weeks after applying as a head teacher a girl from the office called me back and said that they had just gotten financial approval to pay for both Trent and I. As I was talking to the girl on the phone about what paperwork she needed from me in the next few weeks she asked “Are you 100% certain that you will be going?” I was a little taken back by her question and the uncertainty that arose within me when she asked it. I told her that we were but if anything changed we would let her know right away. I pondered on my feelings for the next few hours. I kept wondering if I really was 100% sure about this decision. It just seemed like the logical thing to do and there was really not a whole lot to think about. I kept getting the impression that going to China was a good thing but was it the BEST thing? I kept thinking on a saying my mom had written on a piece of paper and posted on the inside of a cupboard door. “Don’t let the good rob the best.” Well, if China was good, what was the best? I knew the answer all along but it took me awhile to accept it. The best thing was having a family. When I got back from work that day I told Trent about my experience and how I really was not sure anymore that we should go to China. He felt the same way. We decided to go to the temple confirm or not confirm our decision. I remember after the endowment session sitting with Trent in the celestial room and both of us knowing without a doubt that the best thing for us to do was to start a family. Over the next few days our decision to stay home from China and start a family was reconfirmed again and again.
In January we found out that I was 12 weeks pregnant. We were beyond thrilled and knew yet again that this was the best thing for us to do. We are both so happy that we did not let the enticing aspects of a good thing blind us from seeing the best thing. Over the course of this pregnancy our testimony of families has grown immensely. And we truly know that there is nothing better that we could be doing. In just a few weeks we will be the proud parents of a sweet, precious baby boy. That thought brings on a whole slew of emotions, but the prominent ones being gratitude, joy and love. We can’t wait to welcome our little man into our home and hearts.

We moved…FINALLY!!!

We finally moved and we couldn’t be happier about it!!! At the beginning of July Trent and I moved out of our place on 420 North and moved about a block away. It is a two bedroom apartment with one bathroom and we actually have a real tub and the shower is high enough that Trent doesn’t have to bend over. There is also a real toilet that is not pink and it is not a “toy toilet” as Patrick called it. The kitchen and bedrooms are great sizes and everything is mold free! To make it even better it is actually cheaper overall than our one bedroom apartment. How awesome is that? Thanks to our wonderful friends the moving process went so well. We could not have done it without all their help, especially considering I was 8 months pregnant at the time, so basically no help at all. We love our new place and are so thrilled to be living here. We love our neighbors and the location. To live here is such a great blessing for us!

As tradition the Pedersen family held their annual 4th of July party and this year Trent and I finally made it up. The Johnson family came down as well so it was even better. The party was held and hosted by the Bob Pedersen family. They did a wonderful job and had loads of delicious food. Trent and the Johnson’s minus Angela all went swimming. I had a wonderful time getting to know the Pedersen family better. They are awesome and I am so grateful for their love and kindness. Later in the evening they had their 4th of July Parade. All the kids “marched” in the parade around the driveway. It was super cute and fun to watch. Then of course we had fireworks. There was a ton of them. All the kids, Trent included, loved watching them. We had a great time and were glad we could go up.

June was a busy month.

In June Trent and I has a lot of things going on. It was a busy month but it was loads of fun. First off Trent was going to Yellowstone for a Young Men’s trip. He would be gone for a week. So I decided that I should go home for a week. My week in Tucson was great. I was able to hang out with my family, relax, go swimming, eat Eegees, play the Wii and all other sorts of fun stuff.

It was such a great week and I am so glad I was able to go down and visit my family before the little man arrived. And my mom and sister were so sweet and threw me a surprise baby shower. It was great. The little man and I had such a great time. And so while I was playing in Tucson Trent had a great time in Yellowstone. He had never been there before and loved it. Trent saw some bears while he was there. He wanted to see a mouse but saw bears instead. I think that was a fair trade. He also went rafting and had a great time doing that. Also before he left for the trip he made a deal with the scouts that if they each completed one merit badge than on the campout they could cut his hair anyway they wanted to. Well, with an offer like that they could not resist and each finished a merit badge. The following pictures show what happened when scouts are allowed to cut hair.

The next weekend was the Hickman Family Reunion in Escalante. Originally it was only supposed to be Sarah and I driving down because Trent had to work. However, that is not how it turned out. When Trent found out he actually didn’t have to work that weekend he called up Sarah and they schemed to surprise/trick me because I always do it to my family. So the morning Sarah and I were supposed to leave, Trent got up at his normal time to get ready for work. I said bye to him and got in the shower. After I got out Trent was gone. As I was getting ready Sarah kept bugging me that we needed to leave and I kept taking my time because I didn’t see why we needed to rush. But eventually we made it out the door about an hour after Trent “left for work.” We are driving along for about fifteen minutes, we had not got onto the freeway yet, when I hear a noise coming from the back, so I turn around and I see this man leaping out from behind the seat of the car. It scared me so bad. Trent and Sarah we just laughing and thought it was so great, and it was. I seriously had no idea that Trent was coming. So, good job Trent and Sarah. Well, in turn I did not want to be the only one that got surprised so we decided to keep the charade going. So, when we arrived in Teasdale, our first stop for the Hickman reunion, we asked if Bryce and Katie would help Sarah and I get some things out of the car. And they being the nice people they are consented to help. What they did not know is that Trent was concealed under a bunch of Sarah’s stuff in the back seat of her car. So as they opened the door to the PT, to their much surprise found Trent. The HIckman reunion was amazing. My mother and her siblings did an amazing job at putting it all together. It was a wonderful time to see family and to learn more about the Hickmans. They were and are an incredible family. I am so grateful that I was able to attend all of the festivities. It was an especially great reunion because we had the opportunity to travel to each city/town that the Hickmans resided. So we actually got to see where Grandma Lyman grew up or where my Great Grandma worked. It was amazing. And we were also able to see family that we had not seen in a long time. I loved it. While we were in Escalante Katie, Sarah, Bryce, Trent and I also went for a hike to Escalante Arch. It was a great hike. We all had a wonderful time, even Bryce and Trent who did not have great shoes for hiking. Trent had super worn out flip flops that rubbed his feet raw and Bryce only had tennis shoes which normally would be great for hiking, but this particular hike the trail goes through lots of water. Wet shoes equals uncomfortable. But we all made it out alive and had a wonderful time.

Then the next weekend more fun arrived in Provo. Patrick flew out to Utah. My parents and Bryce were driving up to Escalante to do some work on the house and since Patrick had some time off from dental school they flew him out to Utah so they could use him for his big muscles. Well, he just so happened to fly out late Friday night and then next day was my birthday! It was great to have him here to celebrate my birthday. Patrick has now been in Utah to celebrate my past two birthdays! I really wanted to go play mini golf for my birthday. And through a random turn of events we (Trent, Pat and I) were all able to play a round of mini golf absolutely FREE!!! It was awesome. I think Patrick ended up winning but what’s new? I had a great birthday and a wonderful time with Patrick and Trent. And then next day I was able to see Mom, Dad and Bryce. I was extremely spoiled in the month of June because I got to see my family so often.

We love Escalante in March!

In March Trent and I took a trip down to Escalante. Every time we are down there we get to help out with different projects. This time we got to help paint huge stripes on the walls in the living room. It was quite the process. Thanks to Sarah, Bryce, Mom and Dad when we got there all the stripes were already measured out. Now all that was left to do was tape them and paint them. Sounds easy eh? Not even close. It took us all day to do it, but it was so worth it in the end. The stripes look awesome. The trip was really fun. Some highlights from it were when Trent was installing the car handle on the driver’s side door and a big gust of wind came along and shut all the car doors with the keys inside. It took three men (Dad, Trent and Bryce), a coat hanger, 20 minutes and a lot of laughing but they were finally able to open the car. Another highlight from the trip is the last night we were there Sarah, Bryce, Trent and I stayed up until 3 am playing Mario on the Wii. It was so hilarious to play all together that we did not want to stop playing. Although in the morning I think we were all wondering if that was the best idea. The trip was great and we wished it could have been longer and definitely look forward to when we can go down again.

President's Day Weekend

For President’s day weekend we decided to head up to the Johnson’s and spend the weekend with them. And since we love surprises, we decided to surprise Angela. We told Shad and Matt that we would be coming up but we kept it s secret from Gel and the kids. Well, when we arrived that night and came down the basement stairs Gel was very surprised to see us. It was a great reaction…thanks Gel That night we watched the opening ceremonies for the Olympics and visited with one another. Trent and I were also able to meet Matt’s girlfriend Micah. She is awesome. The next day we went and played laser tag. It was my first time. We played two rounds. The first round was Matt and Trent against Micah, Angela and me. I wish I could say that we shut down our competition, but we didn’t even come close. It was a valiant effort. The next round I thought might be different because I had played once and now we had Shad on our team. However, Trent and Matt still shut us down. I guess the Dyer brothers are invincible. That evening we decided to do fondue for dinner. It was sure a lot of work but well worth the time. The next day was Sunday and consequently Valentine’s Day. The boys gave us all beautiful flowers. Along with my flowers was an amazing card made by Trent. He got his inspiration from Drake’s Valentines that he made for his class. It was a great idea and I am going to use it when my kids are older. We had such a great time with the Johnsons, Matt and Micah. We hope to make it up to Idaho soon, because we always have such a great time when we are there!

Surprise in Provo

The day was January 16th. It was a Saturday evening and Trent was doing something a little uncharacteristic of him…picking up the house. I just thought “oh how sweet of him to be picking up.” After he had finished picking up he got on the computer and started to play a game. A few minutes into his gaming there was a knock at the door. I expected him to go answer the door because he usually does because he loves to see who it is. Instead he asked me to go get the door because he “just started playing his game.” I of course thought that was a really lame excuse but nonetheless went and answered the door. And who to my surprise was at the door?!?...my older brother Patrick and his girlfriend Alyssa! Patrick literally was the last person I expected to see. He goes to dental school in Portland, Oregon and was in town because a friend of his had passed away. Although he was in town for such unfortunate circumstances, it allowed us to spend the evening together. We just visited for a while and then decided to go out to dinner for a birthday treat because his birthday was the next day. So we went out to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. We had a great time and it was great to meet Alyssa. It was just so good to see Patrick. I miss him being in Provo, but am also so proud of his achievement of getting into such a great dental school.

Christmas in Denver…Our 1st Anniversary….and New Years.

This year for Christmas Trent and I went to Denver. We were able to spend a little over two weeks there. It was a wonderful Christmas that was full of lots of adventures, some more welcome than others. Our trip started with me contracting hives the day before we were supposed to leave and they were not getting any better the next day. So I went and saw a dermatologist who was not sure that it was hives and took a biopsy. We still ended up leaving that day and Trent had to drive the whole way because I was still feeling pretty miserable. We made it to Denver about midnight and then ended staying up for another two hours talking. The next morning Dad Dyer, Trent, Landon and Nathan all went snowboarding. I was invited but opted to stay because being in large amounts of snow still and probably won’t ever appeal to me. The boys had lots of fun but were wiped out when they came home that evening. I stayed home with Mommy Dyer and helped her out, well tried to help her, with the Johnson kids because Angela and Shad were spending 10 days in Chile visiting Shad mission. Adrienne came over a little bit later with Jayden. It was great to see her and Jayden since they ditched us and moved to Denver. It was a great first day of being back, until late that evening when Drake started throwing up that night. Little did we know that he started an epidemic. On Sunday we all went to Church and were able to see the newly called Bishop Dyer on the stand.

That Sunday was also Trent and I first anniversary so that day was even better. Trent made me the number one made out of twenty packs of Chiclets. I laughed so hard when he gave it to me. It was the perfect gift.

I still can’t believe that we have been married a year. Let me just say that it has been the most wonderful year I could have asked for. Trent and I are still so in love and so happy, and I know we always will be. The next day we went out to celebrate our anniversary. We met Dad Dyer at the place he works and the headed over to the German Christmas market. It was fun to see all the different things that they were selling there. There was a man from Austria who was selling handmade nativity scenes. They were so detailed and intricate. They were beautiful. Dad Dyer even bought one. We had a pretty authentic German meal of bratwurst and apple streusel that we ate in the tent where they were selling all the beer. And of course Trent was able to speak German so that made him so happy.

After that we went and walked around downtown Denver. It was fun to see all the cool buildings and streets. Then to top it all off we went to the Natural History Museum. It was actually a really fun museum full of lots of really cool things to see and do. We had a great time. We stop by the gift store to buy something for our anniversary (Trent and I decided that for our anniversary we would buy one gift/thing that would remind us of what we did or where we were for anniversary instead of buying each other gifts). So we got this beautiful pot/vase made from spun onyx, which is funny because last year we bought two pieces of pottery made with horsehair in Sedona while we were on our honeymoon. So next year for sure we will have to branch out and buy something other than pottery. After the museum we went out to dinner to a place called Zink. We thought it was going to be a delicious meal, but sadly it was not. I don’t think that I have ever had such bad food at a restaurant. However the lack of good food was definitely made up by the abundance of good company. All in all we had a great day celebrating our one year anniversary.

Well, the next day started the day of reckoning in the Dyer household. That night I started to feel a little sick to my stomach, and then right after dinner I spent the next six hours throwing up. Then next day everyone felt sorry for me that I had been sick, but what they didn’t know is that their turn was yet to come. Trent started throwing up Christmas Eve, and this experience made his Christmas “the worst Christmas ever.”

The day after Christmas six more people came down, and it just kept going. By the end of our stay there 19 out of the 22 people there for Christmas had been infected. We truly had an epidemic. Besides this little downer on the festivities we really did have a wonderful Christmas break. We went and looked at Christmas lights, went sledding, played lots of games, went bowling, made ginger bread houses(or if you were me, just mainly ate the candy that was for decorating the houses), visited and enjoyed everyone’s company, and on Christmas day we were able to talk with Elder Bubba in Arizona. He sounded great and like he loves his mission.

One of the most ironic things that happened during Christmas is that Dan and Mary gave Trent and I a game for Christmas that was so appropriately named “Pandemic.” We received so many wonderful gifts from family on Christmas. I received my first ever real authentic Christmas stocking (My family does Santa hats). It was pretty exciting. Trent gave me a beautiful picture of Christ, which I absolutely love. And we both truly had a wonderful Christmas day despite what Trent says. While we were there New Years came and went. The boys went and helped rig a balloon drop for the stake dance, and from what Dan and Trent say it was a success. And for our New Years toast we had sparking white grape juice. Mom Dyer decided to put a toothpick with a black olive to make it more “sophisticated.” It was a great New Years.

Our trip out to Denver was full of many fun times and fond memories. We are so happy that we were able to spend time with family and enjoy the Christmas spirit!

Thanksgiving in Tucson

This year for Thanksgiving Trent and I decided to drive down to Tucson. We told my Mom who of course told me Dad, so they knew and Patrick and Sarah because they were not going to be able to make it home. So that only left Bryce and Katie who didn’t know. Well, we drove down over the course of two days and arrived in Tucson the day before Thanksgiving. Bryce was still in school and Katie had not yet come. When Katie did come we just jumped out at her. And she was surprised and just kept saying “I knew it!” After Katie arrived we of course went and got Eegees. And they were SO good. I then went with my mom and picked up a ridiculous amount of peanut oil for the turkey because this year my parents decided to deep fry a turkey. We tried three different stores before we found any. All the stores were sold out. By the time we got back it was time to go pick up Bryce from school. We took the Yukon up to the seminary building where we pick Bryce up and Trent and I hid in the back of the Yukon. My mom and I worked out this awesome idea that she should keep the peanut oil we bought in the front seat so when she picked Bryce up she could tell him that she just went to the store and needed Bryce to sit in the back. So Bryce gets in the car and doesn’t suspect anything. So as we are driving home Trent and I slowly and quietly sit up in the back seat and act like we’ve been sitting there the whole time. When Bryce turned around to see what it was and he shot up in his seat screaming and doing his best to back away from the people who magically appeared in the back of the car. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. It was well worth the 12 hour drive home. We spent the rest of day hanging out and enjoying the warm weather.

The next day was of course Thanksgiving. Melissa, Matt, Landon, and Austin came over to spend the day with us. One thing we all had fun doing was playing the Wii. Before we came down I convinced my Mom that she should give Bryce one of his Christmas presents early—Wii Sports Resort. It is a super fun game. So we all had a good time trying out our hand at the different sports. And apparently I look really funny playing fencing because Trent secretly recorded me playing for his later enjoyment. We also helped my mom with dinner and getting all the good food ready. And my Dad was making final preparations for deep frying the turkey. Well, the time finally came when it was time to put the turkey into the deep fryer. It was all very exciting, even Belle enjoyed herself. While we waited on the turkey we played basketball. A little while later everything was all ready and it was DELICIOUS.

Trent, Matt and Melissa made us turkey cookies. Trent and Matt had a little too much fun making the cookies and a made a monster turkey cookie. I am not sure who ate it, but props to them for doing so.

Well, the day was great and lots of fun. Tucson was especially beautiful. I really love it there. Later that afternoon we convinced Dad to take out the Packard and we all went for rides in the Packard.

It was so much fun. There really is nothing like taking a drive in an old car. The rest of the weekend we just played and enjoyed each other’s company. One the last night there Bryce, Trent and I went to the store and bought stuff for banana splits and they were SO good. Trent and I had so much fun and are so happy that we were able to make it down there.

Pumpkin Carving

As is tradition with Halloween we carved pumpkins this year. We had Bowen and Ashley Fraser (friends we met our freshman year at BYU) over and also Nathan, Adrienne and Jayden. We had tons of fun carving pumpkins. I carved an acorn in my pumpkin that is after Trent drew it on my pumpkin for me. Bowen did a bat and Ashley did a scary face. We are not sure what Nathan and Adrienne did because they left early. And Trent had this grand idea that he was going to carve his pumpkin in a cool design that had holes and then put dry ice in his pumpkin so it would fog. About three hours later after everyone else had left Trent finally finished his masterpiece. He then promptly told me to never let him do something like that again. It may have taken him much longer than he wanted, but it is the coolest pumpkin carving I have seen anyone do. We all had fun carving pumpkins and visiting.

Well it happened. Trenton Richard Dyer actually won something, and he couldn’t be happier about it. It happened on October 16 while we were in Escalante visiting Mom and Dad Corning, Sarah and Bryce. Trent had gone into the room we were staying in to take a nap, and Bryce and I were playing a game. While we were playing I heard Trent’s phone ringing and I looked to see who was calling. I saw that the number started with “422” and I knew that all BYU campus numbers start with 422 so I figured it was important and picked it up.
“Hello”
“Hi. Is Trenton Dyer available?”
“Yes. Just a second while I go get him.”
I go into the room and wake Trent up from his nap.
“Trent, someone from BYU is on the phone for you.”
He says “okay” as he takes the phone from me looking very tired and confused.
I left the room. And a few minutes later Trent comes out.
He looks at me with a blank look and says “I just won a bike.”
“What?” I asked very confused.
“I just won a mountain bike. That was the BYU bookstore on the phone and I just won a bike from a drawing they were doing.”
“Are you serious?”
And yes indeed he was very serious. He won a Trek 820. Needless to say Trenton was very excited about his bike. And now it can’t be said that Trenton Dyer never won anything.

Trent’s 23rd Birthday and Escalante

The week of Trent’s birthday turned out to be a great week. I was supposed to be going on a Campout to Goblin Valley with in my internship at New Haven and would have been gone over Trent’s birthday. However, thanks to the Swine Flu they canceled the camping trip and I was able to stay home that week. I still had to go into work, but I was going to be here for Trent’s birthday. And many more blessings came because of it. Sarah was coming up to Utah to present at the URTA conference her research which was really exciting. My parents and Bryce came up for October break and were going to spend the week in Escalante. Well, we had to pick up Sarah from my parents because her conference was in Salt Lake, so I convince Bryce that he should come spend five days with Trent and I and let Mom and Dad have alone time in Escalante. So Bryce and Sarah were here for Sunday and Monday, and then Sarah had to leave Monday night to go up to Salt Lake for her conference. But Bryce stayed with us until Saturday morning when we drove down to Escalante, Sarah included. It was such a fun week with Bryce here. Unfortunately, Trent and I both had to work and Trent still had school so Bryce was left alone for a few hours each day, but he brought his Wii down to keep him company and we have a good collection of movie to keep Bryce entertained. And Bryce is so good at helping out. He did so much for us while he was here. He is such a good brother. Trent and I had so much fun with him down here. It was so nice to have so much time to spend with just Bryce. Plus Trent and I had lots of fun playing with his Wii. We tried to convince Bryce to give it to Trent for his birthday, but Bryce didn’t go for that.
The morning of Trent’s birthday Bryce and I decorated the house with streamers, balloons, and wrote on the windows with markers. We sure had lots of fun. That evening Nathan, Adrienne and Jayden came over and celebrated Trent’s birthday. Bryce and I made hamburgers and potato salad as requested by the birthday boy. We then opened presents and had pie. It was a fun birthday. Then on Saturday morning Trent, Bryce, Sarah, and I drove down to Escalante. We so much fun down there. Uncle Dick took all of us out to the old saw mill that Grandma and Grandpa Lyman worked. It was so much fun to see it. The Saw Mill no longer exist but Dick, since he was alive when they worked there, remembered where everything was originally. While exploring we found an old car and that had rusted where it sat, but it was nonetheless pretty sweet. We took lots of pictures in it. We also saw on old coal mine, and some pictographs. We spent time just hanging out and helping on the house. We also had another mini birthday party for Trent. Trent received two Nerf swords from Bryce and Sarah and he was SO happy. So consequently we spent a lot of time having sword fights. He also got a sweet laser measuring device from my parents. It is pretty awesome. Well, the house is sure coming along and is going to look great when it is all done. We all had so much fun and were just so happy to be all together.

Amy’s Pseudo Graduation

On August 13th and 14th Brigham Young University let me “fake” graduate or walk as BYU calls it because I won’t technically graduate until December. It was a joyous occasion. Mom and Dad Corning came out for my convocation, as well as Angela with her adorable kids. And of course my sweetest husband attended. Elder Ballard spoke at convocation. It was a wonderful message about being open about our religion and not being defensive. After convocation we took pictures of course. Then Trent and my parents and I went out for a gourmet dinner. Okay, we actually just ordered pizza from Papa John’s and ate it at our place. It was fun just visit and talk. Then after dinner I opened my graduation presents. The first one I opened was from my wonderful parents. They got me an awesome camera. It is such a nice camera. I LOVE it. I will definitely be taking way too many pictures for Trent’s liking. The next present I opened was Bryce and Sarah’s. Now I have to preface this story with another story. The day before graduation Sarah called me. She told me that her and Bryce’s present was really lame. I told her that it could not be lame and I would love it. So fast forward, my Dad hands me their present, a can of Pringles, the first thought I had was “That really is a lame gift.” But is turns out it was the COOLEST present ever. The can of Pringles was all a façade. It was actually an exploding can of money. It was amazing. Katie gave me a gift card so I can go buy new shoes because every girl can always use new shoes. It was really nice to spend time with my parents and Trent.
The next day the Dyers came into town. There was Mom and Dad Dyer, Matt, and Landon. They were all at my commencement including my parents, Angela, and Nathan. Commencement was nice. And while I was listening to the dean of my school speak she told us that they were abolishing the School of Health and Human Performance. So I was one of the last to graduate with that school. My major is now under the Marriot School of Business and Management. So I am not sure what will be on my diploma. Well after I walked, I met up with family and they had a surprise for me. The one and only Emily Lawlor came for my graduation. It was so good to see her. We then took loads of pictures and just visited with one another. Then we went to dinner at Mimi’s Café. Again it was just fun to be all together. My parents left after dinner because they needed to get back home. It was SO good to see them. They Dyers stayed in town one more day and we just played around and enjoyed our time together. It was a great weekend, and now I can get a real job…maybe.

Camping in Hobble Creek Canyon

On the 24th of July we went camping in Hobble Creek Canyon. We decided to go camping on a whim, so as we were leaving we had to stop by Walmart on the way out to pick up some camping equipment. I think Trent’s favorite thing we bought was the hatchet…needless to say he had a lot of fun chopping up the wood, and anything else that happened to be in close proximity. After spending 100 dollars we finally left Walmart and headed out to Hobble Creek. We had no idea what an adventure it was going to be to even get to the canyon. They are doing a lot of construction in Springville so the normal route was closed. So thanks to a lady who works at a gas station, Trent’s amazing sense of direction and my dumb luck we found our way to the canyon. What I didn’t expect but Trent already had guessed was how busy and crowded it was up in the canyon. I think we must have seen three wards camping there that weekend. So we did our best to find the least crowded campground, which happened to be a campground that had only two camp sites left. We unpacked the car, set up camp and started a fire. For dinner we had tin foil dinners that Trent had prepared before we left. They were so good. We also had corn on cob which was steamed in butter over the fire, which also turned out amazingly well. After dinner, it was pretty dark and we played around with a red LED frisbee that Mom and Dad Corning gave us for Christmas. It was really fun…and scary. There you are standing in pitch blackness and you can’t see where the other person is standing and then all the sudden you see a glowing red frisbee headed straight for you. I think I screamed a total of 11 times. After playing with the frisbee a bit we had s’mores and roasted starbursts for dessert. They were delicious. We decided to call it a night and went to bed in our luxurious tent. I slept pretty well, but Trent was burning up, as usual. We got up the next morning and made breakfast. We decided to go on a hike that the camp host told us about. It started our alright, but we soon found it out that it was a not quite as nice as it seemed. There were a lot of fallen trees blocking our path, really steep switchbacks, and no clear trail to follow. We ended up taking a wrong turn and about walked into a huge spider web. Good thing Trent was going first because I never would have seen it. We never make it to the end of the trail, but we did enjoy just being with one another. When we got back to the camp we packed up our stuff and headed home. It was a great weekend. We so look forward to camping more often in the future, especially when we can do it with our children.

July 4th at the Johnson's

All year we’ve wanted to go visit the Johnson’s in Chubbuck, Idaho. We finally made it up there in July. And since we were going almost the entire Dyer family decided to come as well. We went up on Thursday night and left on Monday. The Dyers slowly trickled in over the days. There was Mom and Dad Dyer, Matt, Landon, Nathan, Adrienne, Adrienne’s sister April, Jayden, Trenton, Me, Shad, Angela, Drake, Graham, and Avery. It was a full and busy house but it was so much fun. On Saturday we all went up to Lava Hot Springs and went tubing down the river. I was a little apprehensive considering Shad said that every time he had been someone got hurt. Well we got our tubes and headed for the river. I of course made Trent rent us a two person tube because there was no way that I was going to go down that river by myself! During the course of the trip we almost lost Graham, Drake, Angela, and Mom Dyer. Angela lost her tube and shoe, but both were amazingly recovered. I think everyone was flipped out of their raft at least once. And I don’t believe that anyone walked away from that experience unscathed, except Nathan who did not go tubing. Despite all the bruises we all had loads of fun. That night we went back to the Johnson’s and watched fireworks at a nearby park, However, I think I witnessed more Idahoans setting off fireworks than the city. I won’t lie I was a slightly afraid of being hit by one. After the show we went back to the Johnson’s and Drake who had been so excited all week to set off fireworks reminded us that we still had to set off ours. The very first one we set off shot straight at Mom Dyer and she had to do a little hop, skip and jump to avoid it. However, this little incident sent Drake into hysteria. He started crying and screaming that it “almost killed Grandma” and was begging us not to set off anymore. He thought everyone was going to get hurt and screamed about how much he “hates” fireworks. Well, after a few minutes of fireworks we retired for the night, but the next night Drake wanted to set off fireworks. This time he would scream and cry right before we set one off and the after it went off he’d say “Oh I like that one. Do it again.” You gotta love kids. Our trip was really fun and it was so great to finally see Angela and Shad’s place. They sure have done a lot of remodeling on their home and it looks amazing. Hopefully we can make it up there again soon.

Amy’s 22nd Birthday and Escalante

On Friday June 26th, 2009 I turned 22. It was a busy birthday but lots of fun. I had the privilege of going to work that day, I think it was my work’s way of saying “Happy Birthday!” Then around 2 or 3 o’clock Patrick showed up to see me! I knew he was coming down but I was still super happy to see him. He just stayed and talked with me at work until I got off at 4 pm. Trent came and picked us up and we went home. I opened the door and walked in the house but something didn’t feel right. Patrick and Trent had not followed me in the house. So I turned around to look at them in the doorway and asked “Are you guys coming in?” And in answer to this question they both burst into laughter. Now I was really confused. So I turned back around and found the source of their laughter. While I had been at work Patrick, Trent, and Gabe one of Pat’s friend’s had set up a brand new bookcase that I had failed to notice when I walked in the door. Pat and Trent thought it was hilarious that I was completely obvious to the bookcase, and to this day they still make fun of me about it. The bookcase turned out to be a present from my parents. I love it. After my embarrassing moment we loaded up the car and made our way down to Escalante. It was a great drive. It really is so beautiful down there. I can understand why my parents bought a house there. We made it to Escalante around 9 o’clock. My mom had made me a birthday dinner. I requested Runzas, and they were so good. Patrick was especially pleased with my choice for dinner. We had cake and then opened presents. Bryce gave me a new journal and bookmark, which I was so happy to get. I’ve really needed both. Sarah and Katie had given me their presents the weekend before when they were in Provo. Sarah gave me three new books and Katie gave me bookends. They were perfect. Patrick gave a new electric toothbrush that he got free from being a dental student. I love it nonetheless, however I am pretty sure Trent uses it more than I do. And my sweet Trenton gave me a brand new set of scriptures. I really wanted a new set, and these ones are beautiful.
The next day Pat, Trent and I went hiking to the lower calf creek falls. Pat and Trent were “smart” enough to jump into the freezing cold water. I just laughed at them and was happy I wasn’t in the water. The falls were beautiful and so was the hike in. On the way out we passed at guy that all three of us had to trying our hardest not to burst into laughter when we saw him. Every inch of his face was smothered in a thick layer of white sunscreen. I guess he was really worried about getting sunburned. The rest of day we spent doing things around the house. Mom and I painted the bedrooms while the boys did something. On Sunday my parents drove us up to Bryce Canyon and we walked around and saw all the wonderful sights. It was beautiful. My parents told us about Paria Viewpoint and how it is haunted. They took us out there, and Patrick and Trent were pretty unconvinced that it was haunted. My Dad and everyone else dared me to stand out there alone for one minute, and I did. I guess it was sort of creepy, probably more so at night. After Bryce Canyon we drove around other parts of Escalante. Overall, the trip was really fun and relaxing. It was especially great to see Patrick.

Bubba Goes to the Temple

In April the Justin received his endowment in the newly dedicated Draper Temple. It was a beautiful day. The whole Dyer family was able to make it out here except for the Maulers. The temple session was wonderful as always. Justin looked a little shell shocked but overall we just noticed happiness the emanated from his countenance. After the temple session we all went to eat at Café Rio, which was delicious as ever. Then the boys had found a kite shop and wanted to go look at it. They had some pretty cool kites but that was not the main attraction of the store. One of the store workers owned a Segway and let me clarify. This was not a normal Segway, but an off road Segway. And either because he was a nice guy or because he was male and knows how much boys love their toys, he let anyone take a ride on his Segway. Trent was so incredibly happy and he spent the rest of the day trying to convince me that we needed one. Everyone had a great time riding the Segway and playing with all the toys at the store. After that little excursion we went to Boondocks and played the arcade games. We then headed out to Uncle Bob and Aunt Catherine’s for lunch. It was a great lunch and I know everyone had a great time visiting with one another. We just spent the rest of the weekend playing and visiting with one another. It was such a great weekend and we all had a great time.

First things first....We got married!!!

On the beautiful day of December 20^th 2008 Trenton and I were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona temple. It was an amazing day and every day after has been even better. We were sealed at 9:45 am and were so lucky to have family and friends with us in the temple. After the sealing took place we presented ourselves as the new Dyer Family. Trent and I were able to say hi to those unable to be with us in the temple and then we took pictures with everyone there. After that was done, Trent and I stayed and took more pictures while everyone else headed done to Tucson for the lunch in. My wonderful mother was sweet enough to prepare a sack lunches for everyone for the drive down to Tucson. She even included a crossword puzzle about the Newly Wed Couple and sights to see on the drive down.

We decided to have the lunch in my backyard in Tucson. We wanted it to be a place that everyone could just feel comfortable and relax, and plus this way I was able to order in my favorite food in the whole world—EEGEES!!!!!!!! I have to say that was the best decision, excluding the groom that I made for our wedding. We all had a wonderful time eating and just enjoying one another company. I have to say one of the highlights there is how enamored the whole Dyer family was with our grapefruit tree. It was the hit of the backyard and everyone wanted to take a picture under it.

After the lunch in it was time to head to the reception. It was held at the North Stake Center in Tucson. Just some background on the reception, as my Mom and I were planning where to hold the reception we threw around a lot of ideas, but we finally settled on the stake center. I told my Mom to have her way with how it was decorated, and she did. So the night of our reception Trent and I really honestly had no idea what it would look like, but it was hands down the most beautifully decorated reception we had ever seen. My mom is the super hero of decorating stake centers…WOW! Thank you with all our hearts Mom!!!!!!!!!!! Trenton and I had a great time at the reception. Our only regret is that we did not have any of the food served there because we were too busy greeting our guests. But we really didn’t mind.

Our wedding was so beautiful. And we can think of at least two reasons for this. One because our family and friends were there with us celebrating this wonderful day, and two because we were able to be sealed in a temple of God. It is now over ten months since that day, and we are happier than ever and more in love than we ever thought possible. Thank you so much for everyone who came and everyone who helped make that day so incredibly special. WE LOVE YOU ALL!

Single for One More Month...

We are only a month away from our wedding and can't hardly wait! Planning is going extremely well, thanks to Evelyn Corning and Diana Dyer. Mothers are wonderful; what would we do without them. The stresses of life have been ever present as we've tried to cram in our homework, tests, church callings, work, and wedding planning into the little time that we have. After that, it leave no time to spend together:( So we try take every opportunity we get to do our 'tasks' together. I won't lie though, Amy's eyes can be quite distracting when i'm studying;)

Well, our announcements have been created(by Matt) and i think even printed by now. They look pretty good (thanks to Amy) and hopefully will encourage people we know to come say hi after we get married and sealed. Now the task is addressing all the envelopes and stamping and sealing them closed so we can send them out in the next couple of weeks! Hope they get out on time. Once again, our gratitude is to Evelyn for printing them up for us, but especially to Angela Johnson and Meagan Jackson for taking the pictures, and Matt Dyer for making them!!!

After a long search for housing (because we don't want to live out of our car) we finally signed a contract today for a little old duplex house south of campus. It's located at 669E 420N in Provo, so not too far from campus. It is old, could use some touching up here and there, has one bedroom, a decent sized living room, good kitchen, and also has a dingy, spider-filled basement with lots of cobwebs and room for storage.

WE'RE ENGAGED!!!!!...My side of the story

As most of you know, we are planning on getting married!!! (Look at me and my bad self. I just snatched you right out of the air.) I realize that i got home not too long ago and so you may think it is somewhat fast (Trent that was almost three months ago. And who was the one that waited for 2 years?). Amy on the other hand kept wondering why it took me so long... go figures (Lies. I was so patient...24 months +3 Months = Enduring to the end). Many things didn't go as planned on the night of August 9th... it was cold (It was hardly cold. I am from Tucson, Arizona. That is basically like being from Antarctica. Trent just gets cold really easy, but I still love him) and windy, the lights in the park were out (The lights were out in the park. My soon to be fiance lurked around the corner checking for dark figures. And then BANG!!!!! out of no where tumultuous storm of Colorado sewer water attacked our defenses...), the sprinklers were on, and i ran Amy not only into a tree branch (I think I have a scar across my right eye...the monkey his uncle?), but also through wet grass and mud. Just trying to make it a night worth remembering;) (Oh is that what you were trying to do! I just though it was a physical fitness test.) But she said YES!!! (She said "Yes." And I said "Wow." She said "When?" I said "How about right now?")

Fortunately Amy is going to keep the ring I picked out for her (I didn't know I had a choice. Now that I do know...I'm still going to keep it.). It took all that she had not to vomit (To explode from excitement and pure joy is what Trent meant to say.) upon seeing it at first sight, but i think it's growing on her (Oh it's grown. "One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."). We're getting sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on the 20th of December 2008 (Yes! There is no snow in Mesa!). After that, she won't be able to get away from me as easily:) (I think you will still be ticklish even after we're married...so I'm pretty sure I could still get away. Plus, I can use my spidey-web-blaster! GO WEB!!!!!{with hand motion}) Donations are welcome (Account # 5202975470, that goes directly to our Swiss Bank account) as we both are not only dirt cheap (got the ring from a vending machine... only my second attempt!!) (So was it a claw vending machine so you actually had to work for it?? Or was it just a quater machine? "The Claw has chosen. Farewell my friends."), but dirt poor (You lied to me? And what are you? A sheep?). I promise that in real life we are both as happy as we look in these pictures (That is SO true). We are SO in love (SO in love) and December couldn't seem further away.

Well, i was finally able to go and meet some long lost friends and relatives of mine the 19th through the 24th of June. I'm always slow at getting these postings up. I'm probably the only one who reads them anyways. So i almost lost my life driving to Provo with Bro. Portlock... twice. Fortunately i didn't and was able to finally meet that red head who Nathan married: namely, Adrienne. it was nice to visit and talk with them for the short while that i was there.

Also, while in Provo, there was this girl who i've been dreaming of seeing for years... literally. Well, my dreams came true and i finally was able to see Amy Corning again! I can't even express how wonderful it was to be with her the rest of the weekend and how hard it was to leave her at the end. Her and i drove down to Arizona on saturday, the 21st and i met the rest of the Cornings who were all so kind to me. Then Amy took me to see Ssa! she looks wonderful even with an abnormally large belly full of child. Her husband Landon is a great guy and they even let me sleep on the floor with their pet cockroaches. There was a lot more that happened, those were the main ones though. I sure can't wait to go down there again sometime!

I'm Back!

...well, it was actually over a month ago that i returned home from the Germany Munich Austria Mission. It was more incredible than i can describe. I am so grateful for the many experiences that i had while serving among those great people. It wasn't always easy... in fact i'm not sure if it was ever easy, but it sure was worth every bit of energy put into it. I loved it and i miss it... and i'm tired!
